Tour Plan

Day 01 Srinagar to Sonmarg

Altitude: 7,800 ft - 3 hours drive

  • Arrive in Srinagar and start your journey to Sonmarg by yourself.
  • Depart in the afternoon and reach Sonmarg by evening.
  • On the first day of the Kashmir Lakes Trek, enjoy the enchanting ambiance of Srinagar, famous for its lush gardens, serene lakes, and charming houseboats.
  • If you wish, take a memorable Shikara ride on Dal Lake or stroll through the Mughal Gardens, revealing numerous scenic wonders.
  • Stay overnight at a campsite in Sonmarg.
Day 02 Sonmarg to Nichnai via Shekdur

Altitude: 11,500 ft - 6 hours - 11.6 km

  • Marks the beginning of the captivating Kashmir Great Lakes trek.
  • After enjoying breakfast at the guesthouse, kick off with a 3-4km trek from Sonmarg to a roadside eatery, where you can stock up on all the essentials for the day.
  • The trek ahead will be gradual, running alongside the Sindh River through maple and pine forests.
  • As you journey through the forests, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the Sonmarg Valley and picturesque streams.
  • Continuing on, the trek will descend and lead you to the snow-covered Shekdur Range.
  • Take some time to relax in the area before continuing your trek towards Nichnai, situated approximately 11,500ft above sea level.
  • Upon reaching Nichnai, check-in into the campsite.
  • Enjoy dinner and spend the night at the camp.
Day 03 Nichnai to Vishansar Lake

Altitude: 12,000 ft - 6 hours - 13.5 km

  • Start trekking early in the morning, around 8:00 AM.
  • Begin the trek towards Nichnai Pass, soaking in the scenic views of lush valleys.
  • Cross the river and trek along its banks towards Nichnai Pass or Vishansar Berry.
  • Upon reaching the pass, located at 13,500m above sea level, marvel at the stunning beauty of the snow-covered peaks.
  • Descend steeply and reach a picturesque meadow adorned with colorful flowers.
  • Along the Kashmir Great Lakes trek, catch glimpses of a cascade merging into a river.
  • Continue the hike and reach a flat valley; proceed towards its end and arrive at the campsite.
  • Enjoy mesmerizing views of the Himalayan Range and Vishansar Lake from the left side of the trail.
  • Spend the night at the campsite by Vishansar Lake.
Day 04 Vishansar to Gadsar

Altitude - 13,800 ft - 5 hours - 16 km

  • Wake up in the morning and admire the reflection of Kishansar Peak on the azure lake waters
  • Begin the trek towards the lakeside and ascend to Kishansar Peak, around 500ft above the campsite
  • Ascend to the other side of the water reservoir, encountering both easy and challenging terrains
  • Later in the day, trek towards Kishansar Lake and continue to Gadsar Pass, the highest point of the trek at 13,800ft
  • Pass through a flowery meadow and picturesque lakes, including Yamsar Lake
  • Descend from the pass and cross Iris to reach Gadsar Lake, adorned with exotic flowers and snow-capped surroundings
  • Upon reaching the lakeside, report to the nearest Army Camp and complete the necessary formalities to pass through Gadsar; ID proofs are required
  • Spend the night at Gadsar Lake
Day 05 Gadsar to Satsar

Altitude: 12,000 ft - 6 hours - 11.3 km

  • Begin the day with a walk from the army camp towards the stream. Prepare for diverse terrains including super steep, flat, and uneven land. Take a brief break at Maengandob, surrounded by mountains.
  • Arrive at the first of the Satsar lakes, a cluster of seven distinct lakes
  • Follow the same protocol as the previous day with the army officials
  • Set up camps near the enchanting first lake of Satsar
  • Spend the night at Satsar
Day 06 Satsar to Gangabal Twin Lakes

Altitude - 11,500 ft - 6 hours - 9 km

  • Prepare for a challenging day requiring both physical and mental strength
  • Navigate through rocky and boulder-filled terrain, passing the final Satsar lake
  • Descend for approximately half an hour until reaching the forest line
  • Begin ascending again, reaching an altitude of 13,400ft
  • Witness various ridges at different heights and quaint Gujjar huts along the climb
  • Enjoy breathtaking views of Gangabal and Nundkol lakes, connected by a picturesque stream known for trout fishing
  • Trek along a sharp and rocky trail, leading to a gurgling stream
  • Pass through the stream and reach a lush meadow leading to Nundkol Lake, a popular weekend getaway
  • After about 20 minutes from Nundkol Lake, arrive at Gangabal Lake
  • Cross the bridge over the lake to reach the campsite
  • Enjoy dinner and spend the night at the camp.
Day 07 Gangabal to Naranag

Altitude - 7,450 ft - 6 hours - 13 km

  • Begin your final day at Gangabal camp, walking through grassy terrain adorned with yellow flowers and pine forests.
  • Descend and reach Naranag, marking the last leg of your trek. Naranag is located in Ganderbal District.
  • You can also visit Naranag Temple.
  • Conclude your trek and return to Srinagar by driving back, cherishing the wonderful memories of your journey.
